Russia - underground bunker/our last day

Thursday - Once again my mom was kind enough to stay home with Jake while John, my dad, and I went out.  We went to an underground bunker...18 stories underground I think...and it was really cool.  It was in this random building, somewhere you would never expect it to be, and you either had to ride a small elevator down or walk the 18 stories.  We rode the elevator :)

Oh, and before we left, these two had their daily dose of bonding time :)  Two out of three of my very favorite guys!

this was the outside of the building...really random place

When we walked in the door these two were playing the piano together.  Jake LOVED being with Grandpa and Grandma and loved all the attention all week long!  He had grandparent withdrawals when we got home.

That about concludes our trip!  I'm sad that it's over, but so grateful that we were able to go.  My favorite part of the trip was just being with my parents and seeing what their lives have been like the last 2 1/2 years.  I can't believe they get home in July!  I can't wait to have them back!!

Our flight home was miserable.  We chose to have a bassinet for Jake that clicked in the wall in front of our two seats.  We didn't see the bassinet until we were in flight...and when they brought it out I knew we had made a mistake.  It was tiny and Jake barely fit..his head and feet were both touching the top and bottom of it.  He slept for about 2 hours total of the entire 12 1/2 hour flight.  He wasn't fussy, but just wouldn't sleep.  Finally I asked for his car seat back and we strapped him in that...and he was out.  I flew back to Utah with Jake to get Brooklyn and John flew back to Arizona to start school on Monday.  My flight with the kids to Arizona was also miserable - 2 hours delayed, we were all starting to get sick, we were hungry, tired/jet lagged, Brooklyn fell asleep as we landed and was NOT happy about being woken up.  When I finally saw John at baggage claim, while pushing Jake in the stroller, carrying two car seats, my diaper bag, and a screaming Brooklyn, tears started rolling down my face.  John asked if he should hug me now or later...to which I replied later...we got our bags...made it to the car...and then I sobbed in John's arms for a few minutes :)  It is funny now, but definitely wasn't in the moment.  I was very ready to be home and to sleep in my own bed.  But I would do it all over again for the wonderful trip we had to Russia!

  1. Did you get claustrophobic when you were underground? That is so cool. I bet you were soooo glad you guys went!! Those pics of Jake with your dad and mom are to die for. Your parents look so happy. Glad it was worth it. Traveling is EXHAUSTING especially when you are alone with a kid. Glad you are home now and settled back in.
