St. George/Mike's marathon

The first weekend in October, the kids and I drove to St. George to watch my brother Mike run the marathon.  I was a little worried how a seven hour drive alone with 2 little kids would go, but overall it went well.  I stopped once each way, to gas up, use the bathroom, feed Jake, and let Brooklyn out of her car seat.

We left Friday morning and arrived in St. George that afternoon.  Brooklyn was so excited to see Grandpa Marc and Grandma Betty, Aunt Sonya, and Uncle Mike.

That night Mike, Jake, and I went to Olive Garden for dinner.  Brooklyn stayed with Grandma Betty (which was such a nice treat for me to enjoy a meal with peace and quiet).  The food was good of course and fun to be with Mike.

The next morning I woke up at 4...to take Mike to the bus...where they then drove them up the canyon to start the marathon.  I was able to get a few more hours of sleep and then Brooklyn and I  headed to the race to cheer Uncle Mike on.  We weren't able to see him as early as I wanted (I think we saw him at mile 24), but we found a nice spot to wait for him to run by.  Brooklyn did really well and loved watching the runners run by.  I was cheering for them and pretty soon she started to too.  She'd yell...."GOOOOOOO" and "RUNNNNNNNNIN"...it was funny.

I was watching closely for Mike the whole time and all of the sudden he was RIGHT there.  He seriously came so fast and I didn't have a chance to take pictures of him as he was running towards us.  So the only picture I got of him was when he was running away (he is in the middle of the picture in the blue shirt).  He did stop for a second though to say hi and tell us how much pain he was in :)

I packed all our stuff up as fast as I could, threw it in my car, and raced to the finish line.  I was able to get a few picture of Mike coming out of the runners shoot.

I'm so proud of this guy!  His time was around 3 hours 45 minutes....he did so good.  It was so fun to be there and support him.

Funny story - I was in such a hurry to make it to the finish line after I saw Mike run by us at mile 24, that I forgot to shut my trunk after I got the stroller out.  When we were walking back to my car after the race..I saw this trunk door open and made the comment while laughing..."who leaves their trunk open?"  Oops!  That would be me.  Luckily nothing was stolen.

We came back to Marc and Betty's, Mike showered, and then we relaxed in the hot tub for a bit before Mike had to drive home.

We took naps that afternoon, watched conference, ate a yummy dinner with Grandma and Grandpa, Solomon, and Sonya, and played at the park.

We drove home Sunday morning.  It was such a fun, quick trip...nice to get away and support Uncle Mike and nice to spend time with the Mortensen's.

Jake - 4 months old

Weight: 18 lbs 13 oz (96%)
Height: (57%)
Head: (90%)

Yup, you read those stats right!
Jake is a BIG boy :)

LoL - seeing these stats just makes me laugh...I LOVE my chunky, happy boy!!

How can that face not make you smile?!!

This was his outfit a few Sunday's ago...he looks like a farmer to me.  It is size 6 months - and you can see that it wasn't big on him by any means.  I think it will be the only time he'll wear it.

And 4 random things about Jake, just because:
 -  when I am feeding him he pulls off all the time and has the biggest smile/grin and just stares at me.  I LOVE it.  I talk to him and he coo's back at me for awhile...and then helps himself back to more milk.  He does this about 5 times on each side, per feeding (sometimes it does get old).
 - wakes up so happy.  I love having him right next to me (in the pack n' play) by my bed.  I wake up every morning to him chattin' it up to himself and staring at his hands.  As soon as I peak my head over he gives me the biggest smile and waits patiently to be fed.
 - has WAY too many blow-outs...at least 3 a day.  I know I should just buy the next size up diapers...but I'm trying to use all the size 3 now that I have.  And yes...that would mean he'd be in a size 4 diaper, same size as his sister!!
-rolls over now and is grabbing for toys.  I love this stage, when they start to interact more and can play on the floor with a toy for awhile and stay entertained.  A lot of times his sister comes and takes his toy, but he then just contently watches her play with it.

29 years old

John's birthday was on the 27th of September.
He is 1 year away from 30.
Yikes!!
He We are getting old!

John was gone all day at school/studying on his birthday and I had a really busy day too.  He wanted wings for his birthday dinner...so we picked some up from Buffalo Wild Wings...and later had cake and ice cream.  Poor guy...didn't have one present to open (yup, I'm a terrible wife!).  But he did just get a new bike last week so he can now ride to school and we went to a Diamond Backs game on Saturday (the one thing he said he wanted for his birthday).  And he also bought himself some new swimming goggles too.  So I would say he still had a great birthday.

Jake was already asleep when we did cake and ice cream, but Brooklyn loved watching her daddy blow out his candles.

My friend watched Brooklyn for us while we went to the game.  Jake was a GEM and it almost felt like it was just the two of us because he just sat in my lap the whole game and looked around.  It was such a treat not to have to chase a toddler around and we had such a fun time.

Chase Field was awesome.  I didn't realize it has a re-tractable roof...it felt like we were sitting in an air-conditioned building watching a baseball game.  It eventually was opened when it was dark outside and had cooled off a little.

the stadium even has a swimming pool!

This was Jake's face most of the game...just happy to be alone with Mom and Dad.
