Pioneer Day Weekend

We had a great, relaxing weekend.  I love long weekends and being able to spend more time together as a family.  Our week days are so busy with us both working and John going to school, so having two Mondays off in July has been so nice.  A quick recap of our weekend...

Friday - John and I played tennis (and Brooklyn watched).  It has been forever since we've played and we were both terrible, but it was so fun.  I might have come back in the end and beat John and he might not have been too happy about it :)  But he got over it when we treated ourselves to our favorite new treat = nutella/banana/almond crepes that are HUGE and so so delicious.

Saturday - John had to work in the morning so Brooklyn and I got the usual done (cleaning, laundry, grocery store, etc).  We went to my brothers indoor soccer game and then had dinner and swimming at my parents house....well what I wish was my parents house.  (My parents have been home from their mission for the past 3 weeks - more on that later - and have been staying in a mansion with a swimming pool, which we have fully taken advantage of).

Here is my brother Rich with Brooklyn.

getting ready to dunk her - I told him too :)

coming up out of the water - he he :)

Sunday - John spoke in church.  He did a fabulous job - his topic was on being a father.  We went up to Marc and Betty's for dinner and enjoyed the evening with them.

Monday - went swimming in the late morning with everyone again at my parents.  John, Brooklyn, and I stayed and took naps and worked on projects and then headed over to Jeannette's for a BBQ/fireworks.

**Do you like our family pictures?  John's sister Shari took some of us when she was in town and I love them!!  She is an excellent photographer - you can see more here.

this is just gross

The other day when I went in to get Brooklyn up from her afternoon nap, this is what I found....

throw-up everywhere!

all over her shirt. all over the sheets. all over her blanket. all over her hair. even chunks in the back of her hair and under her double chin. it was gross. really gross.  she went straight to the tub.
I'm surprised she slept through it and didn't seem to mind at all - for 2 1/2 hours even.

Brooklyn at 6 months

I took Miss B to her 6 month check-up last week.
She is staying pretty consistent with her weight/height percentages.
17 lbs 15 oz = 84%
25 1/2 in = 55 %

And of course a few pictures of her lately...

enjoying some baby food in her bumbo,

playing with toys and rolling over on the floor,

she is mobile (rolling over) - started out on the blanket in these pictures

learning to sit up...(she still falls over quite a bit but she is getting better),

and here she is falling asleep watching me make breakfast.

my new obsession

Pinterest.

Have you heard about it?
I know some of you have because I "follow" you.

If you haven't heard, you must.  I know I'm usually the last to hear about the new big thing, but this is just awesome (sorry if this is old news to you).  I absolutely love it and am totally hooked.

It is kind of hard to explain, but I'll do my best.  Basically it's a place that lets you catalog the things you love.  Here is a better description from the actual website of what it is:

Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web.  People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes.  Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people.  Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests.

Still not making sense?  Here is the link to see my page.

Sorry if this isn't very exciting to anyone but me.
I love it and maybe others will too.  If you want an invite to follow me or to start your own, let me know!

4th of July

We had a great 4th.

We started out our day with the Freedom Run 5k.  It was mostly downhill, starting at Popperton Park and finishing at the Capitol building.  It was fun to run in a race..it has been awhile.

John pushed Brooklyn the whole way.

Mike and Rich joined us (Rich took 2nd overall - very impressive!)

Brooklyn in her first official race.

We then met my sister and her kids and brother Pete at the Fairmont swimming pool.  This was Brooklyn's 2nd time swimming and she did great.  I really wanted to dunk her and see how she'd react to it - I know, I'm mean.  But she didn't cry or seem to mind too much :)  We picked up lunch and ate at my sisters and then spent the afternoon relaxing and getting ready for the BBQ.

Brooklyn and cousin Hailey - these 2 are three months apart.

The younger girls in their matching 4th outfits.

We had a BBQ at the Bowen's...which included visiting, games - ping pong, bunnies, and psychiatrist, dessert, and our own little firework show.
John made this 4th of July dessert - it was delicious!  It was an oreo killer pie with blueberries and strawberries on top.

Meg and I bathed the younger girls before the fireworks started.

 Brooklyn and Annie.

pyro John - this guy loves fire, fireworks, and anything do to with them.  He brought a few of our illegal fireworks and shot them off all night.
